While You Are Away
- Needing reassurance about your health?
- Unsure whether your problems need medical help?
- Uncertain about the advice or medication given locally?
- Just want someone to 'speak' to, someone whose judgement you can trust?
- Need an expert second opinion?
Our team of 'online' doctors are all fully trained and practising UK General Practitioners. They commit, on a rota basis, to checking and answering emailed requests for advice, usually within 12 hours.
Where appropriate they may consult with a specialist regarding your problem.
This service cannot substitute for a face-to-face consultation and examination, but has proved helpful (and on occasion life-saving) to those who have used the service during the 7 years since it began.

During Home Leave
We recommend a full medical review and personal 'debrief', during which we can
- Review any concerns which may have arisen during your term of service
- Give you a general health check-up
- Screen for tropical infections
- Update vaccines and preventative health care measures.
- Refresh advice regarding keeping healthy.
- Review how things are for you as an individual / family
- Allow you to raise personal concerns in a safe and neutral environment
Whilst you may be able to register with a General Practitioner it is unlikely that they will have the time, or the relevant expertise, to address all your concerns.
Although many sending agencies do offer 'debrief' time we find that 'in-house' this can be coloured by mixed loyalties and by the agency agenda. Debrief with an outside agency can allow you the freedom to raise more personal concerns in a safe environment. Client confidentiality is respected and any report to the sending agency will be agreed with the client before sending.
Our team is skilled in dealing with children and we have found that even quite young children (age 8 upwards) also enjoy and benefit from their own opportunity for 'talk time'

When You Return
A full medical review and personal debrief is again recommended for all the family.
- There can be particular stresses in readjusting to home culture and alteration in role.
- Some people after the initial debrief opt to return for more in depth counselling.
- Young people who have grown up in a different 'home culture' can find this a difficult time, and both individual and family support can be offered.

UK Based Ministries and Voluntary Agencies
- Working in full time Ministry, or with a voluntary agency?
- Concerned about someone in your team?
- Feeling that there is no-one you can turn to?
Our services are also available to those working in full time Ministry, or with a voluntary agency. Our psychological services team have a particular understanding of the stresses and potential difficulties faced by those working in this sector.
Usually clients who are UK based are able to obtain medical care through their General Practitioner.
However, there are situations (for example Chronic fatigue, stress-related illness, frequent sickness absence) when it can be helpful to have a full combined review with the extended length of appointment we can offer compared to your GP. One of our medical team is a Consultant Occupational Physician and can offer expert opinion in this area.

Other Professional Services
Following a traumatic event Critical Incident Debriefing can be offered in Edinburgh, or on location, to either individuals or groups.
Specialist post-trauma therapy (EMDR) can be provided for individuals with ongoing symptoms - even a long time after the traumatic event.
Within our team of 4 counsellors, 10 doctors, and a travel nurse we have a wide range of expertise, and can help with all ages. If you are unsure whether or not we can help, please ask. If we cannot provide the service you need ourselves, we may be able to direct you to someone who can.
