Training in Human Social Functioning

Human Social Functioning, which has its roots in the experience of concentration camp survivor John Heimler, includes:

  • The use of the Heimler Scale which wonderfully affirms the experience of satisfaction and frustration of individual clients
  • A disciplined safe reflective listening method that values the words that people use and helps them move forward
  • A powerful therapeutic method that helps people integrate past and present experience

The listening method was considered so good that it was adopted by Christian Listeners, a programme that has now spread throughout the UK. HSF has been a bedrock tool for counselling work at EIHC for 20 years.

We have run four courses over the last 12 years. The most recent cadre of students completed their second residential week of training in June 2009.

The modules consist of Parts 1 & 2, each 4.5 days with a final training day which builds to give accreditation as a Practitioner in Human Social Functioning. Each module provides a completed section of training but for Practitioner status the whole course must be completed.
